If you need to seat a crowd, you have significant choices at your Ford dealership. In this review, we will take a look at how the all-new 2018 Ford Expedition compares to the popular 2018 Ford Explorer.

Performance
The 2018 Expeditions have lost weight with an all-new aluminum build, similar to the one used for the Ford F150. The lighter structure can do even more with the SUV’s hard-pushing engines. A 10-speed automatic also improves engine response. The first powertrain cranks out a 365 horsepower and 420 lb.-ft. of torque. The second is an EcoBoost engine with 375 horsepower and a massive 470 lb.-ft. of torque. Adding to its intelligence, Ford uses a stop-start system to reduce city fuel sue. The Expedition can tow up to 9,300 pounds. Like the F150, it offers Pro Trailer Backup Assist to take the guesswork out of positioning the hitch.
Smaller, the Explorer still needs strong engine choices. The V6 produces 290 horsepower and 255 lb.ft. of torque. A 2.3 liter turbo cranks out 280 horses and 310 lb.-ft. It also maintains the V6 tow ratings at 5,000 pounds. Sport models enjoy a 3.5-liter EcoBoost with 365 horses and 350 lb.-ft of torque. Both the Explorer and Expedition offer an intelligent all-wheel drive system with turn-the-dial Terrain Management.
Size and Amenities
While the Explorer boasts more than 150 cu.ft. in its passenger cabin for seven, the eight-seat Expedition is even bigger. Now it has push-button folding rear seats to make loading easier. Since it is wider than the Explorer, it can handle a stack of 4 x 8 boards when the seats are down. Surpassing the two-panel Explorer moonroof, the Expedition’s panorama vista roof is even bigger. Reclining rear seats are a new Expedition exclusive. Also the bigger SUV will now have a cargo management system for security and organization. The new Explorer exterior is only slightly different from its predecessor while the Expedition has a whole new look to go with its special new build.
The 2018 Expedition has more amenities than ever before, bringing it in line with the 2018 Explorer. The two SUVs offer an advanced Sync touchscreen system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. For the first time, both SUVs have WiFi capability and an available wireless charger. There are more USB ports for the back rows.

Safety
2018 Expeditions have virtually the same safety menu as the 2018 Explorers. This includes Ford parking assistance to get the big SUVs in and out of a space. A 360-degree camera offers a view of the vehicle’s surroundings. It has a special forward sensor for extra help. An autobrake is ready to help if a pedestrian steps into harm’s way. It also may be triggered by a crash threat. A lane-keeper will vibrate the wheel if the vehicle strays toward the lines. If it goes over, a lane assist may act to prevent drift. A blind spot monitor alerts the driver to adjacent cars. The same radar also warns the driver if a car is coming when the SUV is in reverse.
As similar as these two utes are, you need to see them side by side to discover their differences. Test drive your next three-row ride at Mountain View Ford.
