Capabilities

Two turbochargers make up the core of the 2018 Edge's 2.0 L EcoBoost engine that's rated at 245 horsepower. The 2.7 L EcoBoost powertrain increases the output to 315 hp. Natural aspiration initiates combustion in the 3.5 L Ti-VCT engine that yields up to 280 hp. The entry-level V6 engine in the Ford Explorer is capable of generating 290 hp. Carrying the EcoBoost label, the other six-cylinder engine has a peak rating of 365 hp. The 2.3 L EcoBoost engine that produces 280 hp is also available for the Explorer. Patented by Ford, the SelectShift technology defines the gear changes in the six-speed automatic transmission that's installed in the Explorer and Edge. Both crossover SUVs are compatible with the Intelligent 4WD system that's ready for rough terrains. Off-road performance is enhanced by the AdvanceTrac function that maximizes traction and cornering abilities.

Infotainment

From GPS navigation to music, the SYNC 3 infotainment system delivers great applications in the 2018 Explorer and Edge. An LCD display is installed in this advanced multimedia console that also responds to voice prompts. Hands-free calling can be made through the Bluetooth system that's synced with the sound system. Speaking of the audio system, the Sony speakers deliver awesome acoustics in these Ford vehicles. The Explorer's sound system has the Clear Phase technology that mitigates the effects of external noise. You'll also appreciate the Live Acoustics feature that improves the overall clarity of the music. SiriusXM Satellite Radio and HD Radio come with hundreds of channels in the Explorer and Edge. Both crossover SUVs can be managed by the FordPass mobile app. From the palm of your hand, you can check the fuel level, send directions and do other convenient tasks.

Safety

Ford's new Safe and Smart technology is designed to keep the 2018 Explorer and Edge away from trouble on and off the road. If there's a high risk of an accident, the Forward Collision Warning appears in the instrument panel. The Brake Support might help you come to a smooth stop just in time to avoid a crash. Programmed to precisely measure the following distance, the Adaptive Cruise Control can also save you some trouble on the highway. Both of these Ford crossover SUVs have the Lane-Keeping function that provides gentle steering adjustments. The Blind Spot Information System is integrated into the Safe and Smart suite. A forward-facing camera with a 180-degree perspective is installed in the front bumper of the Edge.
