The changes for the Ford Expedition are as big as the rig itself. 2017 Expeditions are strong, dependable and spacious. 2018 models will go even further, adding more power to please the driver and more amenities to please families.

Performance
2017 Expeditions offer a 365 horsepower engine that cranks out 420 lb.-ft. of torque. This engine provides plenty of push for the large SUV. As competitive as this engine is, Ford wanted to make it better. So for 2018, the base EcoBoost engine increases power to 375 horses and 470 lb.-ft. It will have auto start-stop, saving gas at red lights and other long stops. A second engine, available on the Platinum edition, cranks out 400 horsepower and 480 lb.-ft. Top tow ratings have also risen to 9,300 pounds. This should be best in class. Making these powertrains even better, there is a new 10-speed automatic.
Although it won’t show it, the SUV is 300 pounds lighter than the previous model. This allows it to do more with every horse under the hood. Underneath the shiny new sheet metal, there is a high-strength steel frame. This forms a firm foundation for the aluminum-alloy body. This high-strength metal reduces weight, holds its shape, and will not rust. It has already proven its worth on the Ford F-150.
Appearance
Of course, the interior has been updated with more technology and utility to serve busy families. For the first time, there is an available panorama vista roof, spanning two rows. Ford calls this Expedition its most flexible ever. That’s because Ford engineers devised a seat system that allows you to tip and slide a second row seat without removing a car seat. Third row occupants will find reclining seats and more legroom than before.
Dash tech now includes multiple streaming capability that goes beyond the Sync system. For one thing, you can get Apple CarPlay or access Android Auto for access to their content. Also, a new Wi-Fi hotspot is available for up to ten devices, and a new wireless charger keeps Mom or Dad connected and ready. Keeping everyone plugged in, there are now six USB chargers and four 12-volt power points throughout the cabin. The remarkable new dual-headrest entertainment center allows users to watch home cable programming. You can even stream it to a hand-held device. In short, there are so many ways to get content that your family can’t help but find the thing that makes them happy.

Safety
Many of the 40 new features on the Expedition are targeted to safety. Going beyond warnings, such as those available on the 2017 edition, the 2018 Expedition will offer a lane-keeping aid to stop unintentional drift. When equipped with radar and cameras, the Expedition driver enjoys the help of an autobrake for pedestrian and vehicle crash threats. It also has adaptive cruise control to regulate travel during busy traffic. Parking is easier with Ford’s special assistance for pulling in or out of a parking space. Shoppers can also get a 360-degree camera system for a surround view.
