The 2017 Ford F-150 vs 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. What's Your Choice?

Serving Chattanooga, Nashville, and Dalton, TN

One of the biggest decisions facing truck buyers is whether to invest in a truly full-size model or go with a slightly smaller truck that exceeds expectations in terms of horsepower, towing capacity, and trim configurations. Both Ford and Chevrolet have produced capable models over the years, and the larger trucks made by these two automakers are impressive in their ability to handle anything roads and off-road terrain can throw at them.

The 2017 Ford F-150 is a full-size truck that handles more like a mid-size model. It has tremendous towing power, and it comes with a total of five engine choices. The popular Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is available in several different trims, but the price goes up dramatically if the buyer wants all of the optional add-ons. Overall, the 2017 F-150 may be a better bargain, especially when it comes to rugged build, long-lasting value, and trim options.

Trim Options

The 2017 Ford-F-150 is available in three different cab styles, designated as Regular, SuperCab, and SuperCrew. Buyers can choose their bed length with each of these styles. Each of the configurations are available in a total of seven different trims. This means buyers will have to do some homework in order to figure out which combination works best for them, but in the end, a suitable build is always realized by the potential buyer. The 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is also a full-size model, but the choice of trim is limited by the cab style. For example, the regular cab configuration is available only in Work Truck, LS, and LT trims. This affects the standard convenience features significantly as some of the most-desired features might not be available unless a longer bed length or extended cab is chosen.

Powertrain and Performance

The engine output is similar between the 2017 Ford F-150 and Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The base engine on both models is a V6, and power output is essentially the same, somewhere around 285 horsepower. The F-150 can be purchased with a 2.7L turbocharged V6 that increases the output to 325 horsepower. Buyers can also choose the larger 5.0L V8 with its 385 horsepower. There's the option of a turbocharged 3.5L V6, and this engine puts out a total of 375 horsepower. The Raptor version comes with a V6 that produces a whopping 450 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque. The Silverado 1500 can be purchased with a huge 6.2L V8 that produces 420 horsepower, slightly less than what you get with the Raptor.
