The Focus has been Ford’s compact car since 1998, and two decades later, it is still a solid choice in a fiercely competitive market: with choices between a four-door sedan and five-door hatchback. The Ford Focus remains unchanged for the 2018 model year, which comes at the tail end of the car’s third production cycle. There are six trims available on the 2018 Ford Focus; they are the S, SE, SEL, Titanium, ST, and RS.
Performance
The standard powertrain on the 2018 Ford Focus involves a 2.0-liter Ti-VCT inline 4-cylinder (I4) with 160 horsepower. However, the high-performance ST and RS trims—each of which is only available as a hatchback—have beefier workhorses. The 2.0-liter EcoBoost I4 with 252 horsepower goes on the ST, while the 2.3-liter EcoBoost I4 with 350 horsepower goes on the RS. Also, the SE Sedan is the only model with a small, 1.0-liter EcoBoost I3 engine (which, like the 2.0-liter I4, produces 160 horsepower); and the RS is the only trim with standard all-wheel drive (as opposed to front-wheel drive). Available transmissions are a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed manual, and a 6-speed automatic.
Interior
Seating up to five people, the 2018 Ford Focus offers 90 cubic feet of passenger volume. Front seating consists of a 6-way manually-adjustable driver’s seat and a 4-way manually-adjustable passenger seat. Entertainment is provided by four-speaker audio with an AM/FM radio tuner, SYNC infotainment interface with a 4.2-inch LCD display screen, and a smart-charging USB port. Options or upper-level features include dual-zone automatic climate control, intelligent access with push-button engine start, remote vehicle start, six- or 10-speaker audio, SiriusXM satellite radio service, front-seat power adjustability and heating capability, two charging USB ports (instead of one), and 8-inch touchscreen navigation.
Safety
For cushioning and restraint in the event of a car crash, the 2018 Ford Focus has dual front impact airbags, a driver’s knee airbag, dual side impact airbags, and a pair of side curtain airbags. There’s also AdvanceTrac with roll stability control for vehicle stability, a rearview camera, MyKey for governing the driving habits of younger drivers, and SecuriLock for the vehicle’s anti-theft system by combining remote keyless entry and engine immobilization. In some upper-level trims, a panic alarm accompanies SecuriLock for an extra layer of security.
