Decades after its 1964 introduction, a few nameplates have been able to match the legendary status of the Ford Mustang. Going strong early into its sixth generation of production, the iconic muscle car is still blessed with style and performance, with specifications that prove that it is firmly in the modern automotive era. The 2017 Ford Mustang is available as a V6, EcoBoost, and GT trim, with Premium variants of the EcoBoost and GT.

Performance

The EcoBoost trim is named after its 2.3-liter 16-valve 4-cylinder EcoBoost engine, which is designed to maximize the fuel economy of the Ford Mustang: at 22 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. Like its aforementioned counterpart, the V6 is named after its 3.7-liter 24-valve V6, which uses twin independent variable camshaft timing (Ti-VCT) and produces 300 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. The GT trim level uses a 5.0-liter Ti-VCT 32-valve V8, which churns out 435 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque, and provides the best acceleration on the Mustang. Each engine is hitched to a 6-speed manual transmission for optimizing performance and driving excitement. However, you can go for a 6-speed automatic transmission instead. Not only does it do all the gear shifting for you, it can also switch to a manual gearbox feel due to its SelectShift technology—complete with paddle shifters.

Interior

With enough seating for five adult occupants, the 2017 Ford Mustang has a 50/50 split-folding back seat that can be folded down to create more cargo space. Upgrading to the EcoBoost adds 6-way power adjustability with power lumbar support on the driver’s seat, as well as 6-way power adjustability on the front passenger seat. Going further up in trim increases you chance in getting enhancements or additions like front-seat heating and cooling capability, leather seat surfaces, or sports seats.

Features

Standard comfort and convenience features on the 2017 Ford Mustang include auto-dimming rearview mirror, remote keyless entry, push-button engine start, steering wheel-mounted controls, Ford’s SYNC in-vehicle communications system, and a six-speaker stereo system that includes AM/FM radio, CD player, and two smart-charging USB ports. Upper-level trims are more likely to provide or offer enhancements or additions like dual-zone automatic climate control, SiriusXM radio, active noise cancellation, adaptive cruise control, remote vehicle start, HD Radio, universal garage-door transceiver, an upgrade to SYNC 3, and the 12-speaker Shaker Pro Audio System.

Safety

For collision safety, the 2017 Ford Mustang has front impact, driver’s knee, side impact, and side curtain airbags. The AdvanceTrac system provides electronic vehicle stability, which is useful for adverse driving conditions or situations. A rearview camera monitors your driving when the Mustang is in reverse. And there’s vented four-wheel disc brakes for shortening stopping distances, with ABS to prevent wheel lock-up when stopping. Security is provided by a SecuriLock anti-theft system, which is accompanied by the MyKey feature for controlled use of the Mustang with a configurable key.
