The 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor
Serving Chattanooga, Nashville, and Dalton
Clearly there is more fun ahead for off-roading enthusiasts. A new Raptor promises to take drivers both further afield and faster than ever before. Two cabin sizes, more technology, and more amenities sweeten the deal.
New Raptors look as aggressive as they are. A signature grille sits above a massive front skid plate. The muscular body sits high off the ground, offering significant ground clearance. Despite its size, the truck has an improved rear departure angle to allow it to handle quick maneuvers on hilly ground.
Performance
Car and Driver wasted no time in declaring the new Raptor as a 2017 10Best winner. Road and Track magazine suggests that this is a sports car that can go off-road. Ford takes a V6 and turns it into a twin-turbo like few others. The power outlay is 450 horses and 510 lb.-ft. of torque. Adding precision, this off-roader has a ten-speed automatic. For your daily commute, this truck can do the 0-60 mph sprint in 5.1 seconds. The modern F150 body features much more aluminum, lightening the load. This improves the truck's pounds per horsepower ratio. It also means the truck is more fuel efficient than its predecessors. To ensure good ride quality, the suspension is assisted by 3-inch Fox Racing Shox. These uses custom internal bypass technology to regulate damping rates. Wrapping up the package, there are six drive modes including mud/sand, Baja, Rock Crawl, and weather. Ford calls this torque on demand. The system adjusts how the 4x4 drivetrain responds. It can even prompt a steering assist for drivers stuck in difficult terrain situations.
Interior
If you are headed off road, you can bring your friends along, since the Raptor comes in either the SuperCab or SuperCrew models. These large cabins offer significant backseat space. The luxury package really pulls out the stops. It has leather-clad power chairs that can be power-heated or power-cooled. The driver gets a power tilt-telescopic steering wheel and navigation. Special style packages let you dress up the upholstery with color accents.
Features
The Sync3 system includes an easy-to-use touchscreen. This tablet-like device has smartphone-styled menus and virtual buttons. A navigation system adds 3-D maps and directions. A rearview camera broadcasts to the screen. To make sure off-road drivers can see, there is an available 360-degree camera that is perfect for a slow crawl.
Safety
Raptor drivers need special tools for safety. Already they have the incredible power of an auto-shifting four-wheel drive system to put wheelspin right where they need it most, regardless of the terrain challenge. Of course it has six airbags and Ford's road traction equipment, such as stability and traction electronic sensors. Curve control helps it manage wheelspin when speeding along a mountain pass. You can even get some advanced automation such as adaptive cruise control and a lane keeping assist. Other helpful aids include a blind spot system, an integrated trailer-brake controller, and automatic high beams. When tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the regular Ford F150 got all five stars. Furthermore, the two large cab editions have been named an Insurance Institute Top Safety Pick.
