Performance

Having a turbocharged induction system, the Ford Explorer's 2.3 L EcoBoost engine produces 280 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. Twin turbochargers in the 3.5 L EcoBoost V6 engine yield a maximum output of 365 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque. Running on the Twin independent Variable Camshaft Timing (Ti-VCT) technology, a 3.5 L V6 with a naturally-aspirated induction system produces 290 hp and 255 lb-ft of torque. The Explorer's front-wheel drive (FWD) may be replaced with the Intelligent 4WD.

Under the hood of the Ford Expedition is the 3.5 L EcoBoost V6 engine that's rated at 365 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque. Somewhat unusual for an SUV, rear-wheel drive is the standard driveline configuration in this model. You can also select the optional Control Trac 4WD that offers superb off-road performance. Analyzing dozens of mechanical parameters per second, the Continuously Controlled Damping also enhances the capabilities of the Expedition. This powerful SUV is available with the Rear Mechanical Load-Leveling Suspension that prevents the chassis from tilting while transporting heavy cargo. When it comes to handling, both of these Ford vehicles have the Electric Power Steering that's paired with the six-speed SelectShift automatic transmission system.

Safety

The Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) is an advanced active safety technology that's available in the Explorer and Expedition. Powered by radar sensors, the BLIS increases your awareness of your blind zone. Additionally, the Cross-Traffic Alert can identify vehicles that are up to 15 yards behind you. A forward-facing camera lens is also installed in the Explorer's front bumper in order to analyze the risk of a crash. Both models come with rear view cameras that capture wide-angle views with virtual colored lines.

Linked to multiple ultrasonic sensors, the Expedition's Forward and Reverse Sensing System scans the surroundings for any stationary obstacles. The closer you approach something, the louder the beeps will get from this system. When navigating steep terrains, the Expedition will be balanced by the Hill Descent Control and Hill Start Assist. Both Ford cars also have signature passive safety features like the Safety Canopy System and SOS Post-Crash Alert.
