2016 Ford Mustang vs 2016 Chevrolet Camaro

Serving Chattanooga, Nashville, Dalton

Anyone who wants power and performance from their vehicle will take a second look at the 2016 Ford Mustang or the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro. These muscular performance cars harken back to the heyday of the muscle car where you could hear the low growl of their engines as they cruised the streets of every small town in America. Today, we have a resurgence of this power from days gone by because manufacturers listened to the buying public’s request for something besides a cookie cutter passenger car.

Ford took the buyers seriously and delivered the 2016 Shelby GT350R to local showrooms alongside their more traditional Mustang V6 and V8 equipped models. Chevrolet redesigned and reengineered their Camaro and offers them with your choice of three powertrains and all of today’s latest technological advances.

Performances

Since the muscle car is known for its road grabbing bite, the horsepower of these two cars is of the utmost importance to car buyers. The Ford Mustang offers four engine choices with the Shelby GT350 being the top of the line. You get 526 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque from the 5.2-liter V8. The smallest 3.7-liter V6 has 300 horses, the 2.3-liter EcoBoost® has 310 horsepower, and rounding out the stable of ponies is the GT 5.0 V8 that is equally at home on the roads and the drag strip. With 435 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque, you will be noticed at every stoplight. The Chevrolet Camaro offers V8 owners 455 horsepower and 455 lb-ft. of torque in the 6.2-liter engine. Other model options include the standard 2.0-liter turbo with 275 horses and 295 lb-ft of torque or the 335 horsepower 3.6-liter V6 engine. Both offer car enthusiasts power and performance.

Interior and Comfort

While performance is everything, if the interior is not comfortable or the visibility is poor, it does not matter how quickly you are off the line. The Ford Mustang boasts an interior that lets you sink into the low-slung driver’s seat and take command of the wheel. Ford made the wheel small for making controlled maneuvers. It also will tilt and telescope for comfortable placement. You are given a lot of knee room, and a dead pedal gives you a comfortable place to rest your left foot in order to eliminate fatigue.

Driver comfort is key, but passengers are not left out. The passenger seat offers the same glove fit as found on the driver’s side. The Chevrolet Camaro provides the driver with an optimized view of the instrument panel from the driver’s seat, which gives the driver at-glance information on the car. Each seat is tailor-stitched. Critics claim that the Camaro cabin might offer a challenge to outward visibility.

Smooth Ride

All the performance in the world does not make up for a vehicle that is not equipped with the suspension for the job. The Mustang GT is built for open road touring, and its 0-60 MPH in 4.6-second jump off the line launches the driver into a smooth ride. It is not afraid of pitches and turns, and its independent rear suspension absorbs the roll when cornering. The Camaro SS also handles curves, turns and open roads as well as the GT, but it gets less fuel efficiency than the Mustang.
