2016 Ford Focus vs 2016 Honda Civic
Serving Chattanooga, Nashville, Dalton
The compact car market is aimed at supplying enough spaciousness to reasonably carry family, friends, and freight while still remaining affordable. Two of the top contenders in this category are the Ford Focus and Honda Civic. Each has its own means of fulfilling the requirements of this group in its 2016 lineup. As this brief comparison shows, the Focus is determined to gain the upper hand in terms of reliability, technology, and performance.

Performances
Looking at the numbers, it appears that the 2016 Ford Focus is just on par with the Civic in terms of power and mileage. The Focus relies on a 2 liter 4-cylinder engine that presents 160 horsepower while getting 27 mpg city and 40 mpg highway. For better mileage, the turbocharged one liter 3-cylinder EcoBoost engine furnishes 123 horsepower, 30 mpg city and 42 mpg highway. The Civic, on the other hand, utilizes a 2 liter 4-cylinder motor with 158 horsepower that gets 27 mpg city and 40 mpg highway. This looks pretty similar until it’s revealed that the Focus is a flex-fuel vehicle or FFV. Its mileage is based on E-85 fuel that’s 85% low-cost ethanol. The fuel options go beyond this with the inclusion of an all-electric version of the Focus. On a full charge, it can cover 76 miles on the cheapest fuel of all.
Interior
The Civic has included hatchback models in the past, but the 2016 edition has yet to be released. There’s no wait with the Focus. With the standard sedan version, the Focus provides around the same headroom and legroom for front and back passengers as the Civic sedan. In fact, at 38.3 inches of headroom and 43.1 inches of legroom for the front seats, it’s near identical. For extra volume, the Focus hatchback exceeds what the Civic offers. While keeping cabin space the same as that of the sedan, the four-door hatchback edition expands cargo room up to 23.8 cubic feet. This is well ahead of the Civic’s 15.1 cubic feet. When the 60/40 split rear seats are lowered, this carrying capacity balloons to 44.8 cubic feet.

Technology
Depending on the specific model, such amenities as 10-speaker audio and satellite radio are included in both. They both supply a touchscreen monitor, but the Ford Focus goes a little further in this arena by offering a maximum display screen of 8 inches as opposed to 7 inches on the Civic. Each car includes a free satellite radio subscription, but the Focus includes 6 months instead of 3 with the Civic. While driver enhancement features like a rearview camera and lane departure warnings are built into both, the Focus has added a unique capacity with Active Park Assist. This feature lets the car determine a usable parking space and control the steering to maneuver the vehicle into it.
The Ford Focus and Honda Civic have been going head to head for over a decade. Both have a proven track record for reliability and good fuel economy, but the Focus stands out with performance and technology.
