Performance Inherent: Meet the Fun-to-Drive 2017 Ford Focus

These days, the performance versions of the 2017 Ford Focus have been making headlines—in particular the RS, which boasts 350 horsepower and insane handling dynamics. But what if we told you the bones that makes such superlative performance possible is found even on the more mainstream sedan and hatch versions? It’s true. That’s why drivers who want a compact car that checks all the right boxes while still being fun choose this model.

The S, SE, SEL, and Titanium trims of the Focus get a 2.0-liter naturally-aspirated inline-four, six-speed automatic transmission, and FWD standard. Power output for this mill is 160 horsepower and 146 lb-ft of torque, with up to 38 mpg on the highway. While it may not offer class-leading power, drivers have fallen in love with its acceleration, cornering ability, and overall fun factor. On the SE, a 1.0-liter EcoBoost inline-three is on tap with 123 horsepower, 148 lb-ft of torque, and 40 mpg highway with a slight decrease in acceleration in favor of gas mileage, but that doesn’t mean all the fun is completely gone! Stellar low end torque still makes for a fun romp off the line.
